Maybelline Lasting Drama Gel Liner VS Benefit They're Real Push-Up Liner

Maybelline Lasting Drama Gel Liner VS Benefit They're Real Push-Up Liner
When it comes to applying liner, gel is always my first choice and over the past year gel liner pens have become a popular choice as an alternative to the pot versions. I have several reviews on gel liners including the Benefit They're Real Push-Up Liner, but as you know I always love to find an affordable dupe for you guys, so here's my thoughts and comparison on the Maybelline Lasting Drama Gel Liner VS the Benefit They're Real Push-Up Liner.

Have you used a gel liner pen, what are your thoughts, do you hate them or rate then? Leave a comment down below or tweet me.
Price
Maybelline - This retails for £8.99 for 7ml of product and can be found in Boots and Superdrug.
Benefit - This retails for £18.50 for 1.4g of product and can be purchased from the Benefit website and various concessions around the UK.

Packaging
Maybelline - This gel liner comes in simple black packaging and has a rubber angled tip where the product comes out.
Benefit - This liner too is packaged in black, with a slanted rubber tip for easy application. The only difference is the Benefit version is slightly more angled at the tip.
Application
I applied the gel liner pen to the lash line only, the left eye has the Maybelline version and the right has the Benefit one,
Maybelline - Upon application this was easy to use with a twist up applicator, just be careful to turn the top slowly so you only distribute a tiny amount, as it's easier to work with.
Benefit - As above the Benefit version applies in exactly the same way, with a twist up applicator to apply the product. Again be careful to only twist up a little bit, as it can be hard to work with it you turn up too much.
With both liners you do have to work relatively fast, as they do dry quickly. Comparing both on application the Maybelline version is easier to work with, but the Benefit one is slightly more pigmented.

Longevity
Both gel liners stayed really well throughout the day with no transfer or smudging.

Overall Thoughts
Overall gel liner pens for me are slightly harder to work with, if your not used to this type of application compared to your regular gel pot and brush. With a brush you have more flexibility on the thickness of your line and how much you apply to the brush, where as the pen can be tricky to distribute the right amount out without wasting product at the same time.

Comparing both gel pens together, really the only difference is the price as both have virtually the same packaging and apply in the same way. The one other slight variance for me is the Benefit liner is a tad more pigmented, but with regards to application I actually think the Maybelline version is easier to apply. As I mentioned in my review of the Benefit one, I did like this pen gel liner version, as it's perfect to pop into your handbag for on the go touch-ups, it's just a shame neither brands do anymore colours, as this would be a great accompaniment to the gel liner pots.

So if your interested in trying a gel liner pen for a change, save your money and go for the more affordable Maybelline version, but to be honest if you've never used gel liner before, I would recommend investing in one of the gel liner pots instead, as these are better value for money, have a great selection of colours and are easier to use for beginners.

I award the Maybelline Lasting Drama Gel Liner 4.8 out of 5
