I tried the K Beauty 10 Step Skincare Routine for 7 Days ...

Soko Glam 10 Step Korean Skincare Routine
Over the past six months, I've become fascinated by Korean Skincare and specifically K-Beauty Routines, so I decided to take it one step further and test out and share my experience of the 10-Step Korean Skincare Routine inspired by Soko Glam...
Skip to 7.30 if you would like to see my Skincare Diary over the 7 Days

WHAT IS THE SOKO GLAM 10-STEP KOREAN SKINCARE ROUTINE?: *Affiliate Links
I first discovered the Original 10-Step Routine through the online Korean Beauty Shop Soko Glam* which was founded by Charlotte Cho and her Husband back in 2012. Soko Glam describes the routine as more of a lifestyle and highlights the fact that it isn't about having an abundance of products but alternatively about having the correct products that do the correct things in the correct order for your skin type and concerns. If you would like to know more about this then I'll link to Soko Glam's dedicated page on this topic here* and I also break this down further in my video that I linked above.

THE ROUTINE:
In total there are 10 types of products that make up the Soko Glam K-Beauty Routine including four categories. Additionally Soko Glam has a super handy PDF here* that you can print out or save to your phone that breaks down the whole routine so you can have it to hand if you do decide to try out this 10-Step formula.
CLEANSING
STEP 1: Makeup Remover/Oil Cleanser
STEP 2: Water Based Cleanser
STEP 3: Exfoliate (To be done twice a week only)
PREP
STEP 4: Toner
NOURISH
STEP 5: Essence
STEP 6: Treatment (Serum/Boosters/Ampoules)
STEP 7: Sheet Mask
STEP 8: Eye Cream
PROTECT
STEP 9: Moisturiser
STEP 10: SPF (Only needed in the morning part of your routine)

MY SKIN CV:
I have Normal to Combination Skin with the odd hormonal breakout and I am in my mid 30's. I already have an extensive skincare routine especially in the evenings, however, I do use a lot of different products on a daily basis and so it will be nice to stick to the same products and a more structured routine for a week.

WHAT IM USING:
I used a mix of Korean, Japenese and Australian Products that I wanted to test out, but I advise using what works for you personally or alternatively, Soko Glam do have curated skincare sets for a 5 or 10 step routine to suit a variety of skin types here*

For some product categories I decided to add more than one skincare item to suit my Morning and Evening Routine and I've also included an Overnight Lip Mask to this too as I do love a good moisturising balm for the lips as well!

FINAL THOUGHTS:
Overall I absolutely loved doing this routine, each day I looked forward to doing every single step and this for me became a lovely daily self-care ritual as it helped me to dedicate the time to give myself a pamper. Even after a few days, I started to notice a difference in my skins texture and by the and of the week my skin looked glowy, felt softer, fresher and more hydrated.

In my morning routine, I definitely enjoyed doing all the steps and I mentioned in my video that I would maybe take away the essence and the serum step just because I didn't think I would need these in my morning routine however I have actually continued to do my whole morning K-Beauty Routine as it actually doesn't take me that long and I missed doing all the steps! I did time how long this took me in the original video and it was only around 12 minutes.

For the evening routine, I have continued to do all the steps apart from the sheet mask, I probably do around 3-4 each week instead of every day just because I'm yet to find a great value pack here in the UK especially designed for sheet masking every day, just like the LuLuLun ones I used which were Japenese. But if you are in the US, then Soko Glam have just curated an amazing new product from A'PIEU  here* who make a box of 33 sheet masks (basically a months worth!) that are both convenient and better for the environment as they are all packed into the one box.

Finally, I just wanted to add a couple of pointers that I've learnt from doing this routine that I had to share with you guys if you do want to give this kind of routine a go...

  • Apply everything in thin layers that way it just soaks into the skin better as you are applying so many different layers and textures in a short time span.
  • Gently pat the products in for example the Essence, Serum, Sheet Mask, Toner and the Cream.
  • There's no need to exfoliate more than twice a week unless you are using something like the peeling pads that say you can use them daily.
  • Sheet Masks are such a wonderful addition to your weekly skincare routine and there are some great ones out there that don't break the bank either!
  • Find products that work for your skin type and concerns personally. They don't have to necessarily be Korean Products you've just got to find what works for you and your skincare budget.

My Dewy/Glowy Skincare Routine

Glowy Skincare Routine UK
Do you ever feel like sometimes your skin just needs that extra bit of TLC, well today I wanted to share with you my dewy/glowy skincare routine when my skins in need of a little pick me up! I'll also share with you a few tips I use to get that instant dewy glow. 💫
*Affiliate Links
  1. First off I use a cleanser that is going to brighten my skin so I decided to apply one of my newest additions the Neals Yard Remedies Rejuvenating Facial Wash*. I apply one pump onto the skin and then wet my fingers to massage it in further. I also used my Lidl Cleansing Brush to give my skin a deeper more efficient cleanse. And to finish I  used a cold flannel over the face to boost the circulation and remove my cleanser.
  2. Afterwards, I used the Pixi Glow Tonic* on one of my favourite muji cotton squares (these squares are so soft!).
  3. I also spritzed my face with this beautiful rose toner from Wide Eye here. While my face was still damp I used this Rose Quartz Massage Tool* that I mentioned in my skincare collection video here to help give my skin that naturally radiant glow. I love doing this as it aids in boosting blood flow and circulation.
  4. For the eyes, I also used the smaller side of this mini Rose Quartz massager to help penetrate my favourite cooling and brightening eye gel from Simple*
  5. For moisturiser I decided to use the Pixi Rose Caviar Essence* as this is both great at hydrating and brightening the complexion.
  6. Finally to finish you guys know I like to apply an SPF 50 (this is my current favourite*) everyday, and on days when I’m not wearing makeup I’ll add one drop of the Revolution Liquid Highlighter in Starlight* in with it to give my skin that naturally looking radiant glow.
  7. Then to finish I just applied the Glossier Balm Dotcom* in Birthday to my lips for a subtle dash of sparkle and hydration.
  8. Also if you have time and you want to add an extra step to your routine a Pearl* or Vitamin C Sheet Mask are a great way to instantly brighten and hydrate the skin.
Lastly as promised here's a few more tips and tricks I use to get that instant dewy glow...
  • If you are applying makeup that day a couple of other things I use are some hydrating under eye patches. I apply these before I do my makeup and leave them on while I’m doing my makeup so they really have time to sink into my skin and to hydrate and brighten the under eye area.
  • Then when it comes to foundation and these days I'm more into a dewy glow, so I first massage in a facial oil with my other Rose Quartz face tool, then I apply my foundation on top. I adore using the Rose Otto Oil from Balance Me* and massage combo with the Milani Conceal and Perfect Foundation* as it gives the most beautiful dewy finish to the skin.

Skincare in your 30s - My Morning and Evening Skincare Routine 2018

30s Skincare Routine
Now as you guys may well know I've become a bit of a skincare fanatic over the past couple of months! So today I wanted to share with you the best skincare products for your 30's that I'm using currently in my morning and evening skincare routine...
MORNING SKINCARE ROUTINE
1. CLEANSER: Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser* - For mornings I keep it pretty basic and start by cleansing with my favourite Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser that you can read more about here. All I do is massage the product onto dry skin, wet my fingers to turn the cleanser into a milk, then to finish I use a damp flannel to wipe off the excess.

2. TONE: Superdrug Vitamin E Hydrating Mist - Next it's onto toning... Personally, I love using a spray toner as it's just quick and easy. And let me tell you this one from Superdrug is EVERYTHING! It's so affordable and hydrating.

Also if you're in need of an extra boost of hydration and you have the time, I recommend doing a double spritz, trust me... thank me later.

3. EYE CREAM: Una Brennon Super Facialist Vitamin C+ Dark Circles Eye Cream - Ok I have to admit I never used to use an eye cream, it was more of a once in a blue moon thing I think maybe because there never seem to be any decent and affordable options to choose from. But now I can't live without one, especially now I'm 35, so naturally this Una Brennon Vitamin C one is perfect as it feels very lightweight and hydrating around the eye area.

4. MOISTURISE: Glossier Priming Moisturiser* - For moisturiser you guys know as I just reviewed this here, that the Glossier Priming Moisturiser is my go to as it's lightweight, buildable and hydrating.

5. SPF: Australian Gold Tinted Botanical Face Sunscreen SPF50* - My final and most important step (and this should be yours too) is an SPF. I do not leave the house without applying one, in fact, most days I end up applying it twice, once when I leave for the gym in the morning as I walk. Then I apply it again when I go to do my skincare routine after I've got back from the gym and showered. I'm currently loving this tinted one from Australian Gold as it's also perfect for no makeup days.

6. LIP BALM: EOS Wild Berry Lip Balm* - Last but not least I just like to add a bit of lip balm to moisturise my lips.
EVENING SKINCARE ROUTINE - There is definitely a few more steps to my evening skincare routine as this is where I get serious about my skincare and really take and make the time to give my skin a well-deserved pampering.

1. MAKEUP REMOVER: Clinique Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm* - First things first, removing that makeup... Up until now I have been a solid fan of a micellar water and don't get me wrong I still am, but just lately I've been reaching for the Clinique Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm. This cleanser melts away makeup like a dream! Discover more about this cleanser and why I love it here.

2. CREAM CLEANSER: ALDI Lacura Hot Cloth Cleanser - Next I go in with my favourite cream cleanser from Aldi, you guys already know how much I love this, it's honestly one of the best affordable cream cleansers I've used to date.

Additionally, I use another amazing find from Lidl in the form of the SilverCrest Sonic Facial Cleansing Brush. My husband actually got me this for Christmas and honestly, it's become a game changer within my skincare routine! It has four settings but personally, I love setting two for deep cleaning my face with the cream cleanser. All I do is wet the brush and use it in circular motions on my face and then I use long strokes up my neck towards my chin. If I ever find this again you guys will be the first to know so you can get your hands on one too!

3. EXFOLIATE: Pixi Glow Tonic* - Next it's time to exfoliate with my favourite glycolic products. I actually currently switch between two, the Pixi Glow Tonic and the ALDI Lacura Glycolic Daily Cleansing Pads.  (The Pixi Glow Tonic was very kindly sent to me, but as always all opinions are my own.)

4. ESSENCE: Superdrug B Refreshed Essence Lotion - After I've exfoliated it's time to put back the moisture into my skin with this Essence I found in Superdrug. This is actually a new step I've incorporated into my routine to give my skin that extra hydration boost.

5. TONE: As Above -Afterwards I go in with my favourite toner I spoke about above.

6. EYE CREAM: Aldi Lacura Midnight Power Eye Cream - For eye cream, I've been enjoying using the Midnight Power Eye Cream from Aldi as it's hydrating and it has a lovely lightweight gel texture.
7. SERUM: The Ordinary 0.2% Retinol in Squalane* - Next it's onto serums and again I'm currently switching between my favourite 0.2% Retinol from The Ordinary which you can read all about here and the Pixi Rose Caviar Essence* which I have a post on here. The Retinol I use 2-3 times a week and then the rest of the week I use the Pixi Rose Essence.
(The Pixi Rose Caviar Essence was kindly sent to me but as always all opinions are my own)

8. MOISTURISE: Aldi Caviar Night Cream - Finally for Moisturiser I've been obsessed with this Aldi Caviar Night Cream. I'm currently testing this out for an up and coming post but so far so good.

9. LIP BALM & SPOT TREATMENT: Aldi Miracle Cream - To finish I just moisturise my lips with a little Aldi Miracle Cream which I spoke about in my Aldi Dupes post here. I also use this on any blemishes and spots however I do find The Ordinary Salicylic Acid* works wonders if you have any unwanted pimples under the skin. Find out more about this product here.

And that is it, I do hope you found this helpful in some way whether your in your 30's or not. I'm still on a skincare journey discovering new ways to use my skincare and testing out new products in general, so keep a look out for lots of fresh skincare content coming to the PPB Blog and YouTube Channel soon...

5 of the Best Affordable Skincare Tools & Accessories

Skincare Tools & Accessories
While skincare plays a big part in my everyday routine, there is also a few beauty tools and accessories I use within my daily, weekly and monthly routine that accompany many of of my skincare loves. So today I wanted to share with you my top 5 favourites that I cannot live without.
1. Muji Cotton Pads £2.95 for a 120
I have to let you in on a secret... these are the most softest cotton pads I've ever used! They are also a great dupe for the Shu Uemura Cotton Pads as well. Usually I tend to gravitate towards the large baby cotton wool pads, however once I discovered these I could feel the difference instantly. The Muji cotton squares, are so soft and are ideal for using with a micellar water, glycolic acid or toner.

2. Primark Face Cloths £1.30 for 3
If you use a cleanser day and night then you'll most probably be following up with some kind of cloth to wipe the cleanser off with as well. Now don't get me wrong I love a muslin cloth to remove my cleanser, and quite a few hot cloth cleansers come with a complimentary one too. However just lately I've been enjoying a good old flannel to wipe away the day and Primark do the best ones at only £1.30 for three! The flannel for me has just felt that little bit softer on my skin recently and it's also a lovely size to help wipe away your cleanser easily and efficiently.

3. Sally's Mask Brush £2.99
Sometimes it can get a little messy when it comes to applying a traditional face mask, but add a brush into the mix and you're set for life... The brush I use is from Sally's but you can also use a flat foundation brush too.

Using a brush not only helps speed up the application process, it also assists in helping you be more precise with your application.

4. The Body Shop Blackhead Remover £4
If you suffer from blackheads or the occasional spot, then this is the tool for you. This tool helps assist in eliminating any nastiness from the problem area and is best used right out of the shower or after a facial steam when your pores are open. All you do is just press the tool over those pesky blackheads or spots with a slightly heavy hand, then just follow up with a toner afterwards to clean the area up.

5. The Body Shop Facial Massager £8
This last tool is like having your own facialist at home (it's also cheaper!). I actually Picked this up years ago from The Body Shop and it really is such a great tool to have to hand if you feel stressed or you're skin is in need of a little pick me up. Use this dry or with an oil and massage away all over the face to help your face glow from within.
